WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP MYSELF?
There are several ways you can help yourself including:
- EXERCISING REGULARLY
- Checking your posture
- Lifting things correctly – ask for a demonstration at your next Fit For Good session
- Finding out about complementary medicine and pain management programme
- Taking painkillers when recommended by your doctor
Exercise is the most important way that you can help yourself if you have back problems – too much rest can lead to stiffness in your muscles and joints. Research shows that regular exercise leads to shorter and less frequent episodes of back pain. Exercising also releases endorphins (your body’s natural painkillers) which relieves pain and makes you feel happier.
